NO REALLY. WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE WEAR CANADA GOOSE?

For those that don’t know:

This is their logo

Canada Goose Arctic Program

and no, it has nothing to do with the actual goose.

Yep, it’s that coat that you’ve seen people wearing at school, on the subway, streets; everywhere. That poofy jacket with big fur, it’s a Canada Goose ’chilliwack’. Named after a city in British Columbia, the chilliwack comes in various colours.

Colours!!!!

Where can you buy it?

Holt Renfrew, Sporting Life, Harry Rosen, Stylexchange, Due West, various independent shops downtown, check their official website for more locations.

Now that you know:

Who you’ve probably seen wearing one:

  • The spoiled
  • The rich
  • Owners of a blackberry or iPhone 4
  • Asians

If you want one, ask yourself:

  1. Do you look good wearing it?
  2. Do you have intense levels of swagger?
  3. Are you loaded with money?

If the answer to any of those is yes, then you should totally get one! Not everyone should…

You probably shouldn’t get one if:

  • You’re not cool.
  • You’re a nerd. Especially the ones with glasses. Wear contacts if you want to wear Canada Goose. That’s right, I said it. Unless you have hipster glasses, you’re not an exception.
  • You’re a fob. It depends for girls, but fob guys, you… just look wrong wearing one. Don’t do it kthx.
  • You don’t know what “Holt Renfrew” is.
  • You can’t afford it. Don’t think that your friend’s friend’s friend’s ‘hookup’ is going to give you an authentic jacket for under $300.

So why is it so popular? I started by asking people I’ve seen around with the jacket (I see over 30 a day). Here are snippets of what they say.

Unconvinced, I asked again. No really, why do so many people get it? I know you’ve seen flocks that travel together sporting Canada Goose in all colours walking around like they are celebrities. Really… why? Here’s what I think.

  1. The jacket stands out. It’s big and poofy, the fur is huge. Practically everyone knows it, or notices it. Even celebrities wear it. I’m pretty sure there’s a person that you find attractive that owns one. Think about it… it’s probably true.
  2. It’s like some kind of membership. Once you own one, you totally understand other people that own one.

It doesn’t just go for Canada Goose. What about UGGs? True Religions? Louis Vuitton? That ridiculous-looking brand called Affliction? I guess it’s all about being noticed and belonging. Not sure if anyone would admit it, but whatever works for them. For more on this, read up esteem under Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs (psychology ftw :3 !).

So… do they think they’re better than us?

Probably.

But not all of them are conceited and cocky. Having the jacket comes with a huge weight on their shoulders too. Considering their perspective…

  • The jacket gets super hot indoors till they start to sweat
  • Carrying the jacket is a big hassle, the jacket is huge and their arms get hot from holding it
  • They can’t do normal things such as washroom/water breaks without fearing their coat will be stolen
  • Dry cleaning is expensive

Haters gonna hate.

Constantly worrying about the fur not being flattened can be tolling physically and emotionally.

Yeah, this actually happened.

There are actually many reasons why people get this jacket. It’s very warm; it’s not just to be cool. A lot of non-flashy people will tell you straight-up they own a Canada Goose for it’s reputation in quality.

Don’t want to be a part of the goose flock but want a cool jacket? May I suggest…

  • Parajumpers (make sure there’s no dbag that has it at your school/social environment, this jacket is one up the Canada Goose in price)
  • Moncler (also expensive)
  • Dsquared (you probably can’t afford it)
  • Moose Knuckles (do not google that with safesearch off… totally not cool when I did)

Good luck finding your perfect Winter jacket!

Yep… I had one all along… =)

Cheers to… probably over 50 of my friends that have Canada Goose too! =)
