Asian and Brown people. It’s pretty easy to get caught up in what makes us different, but have you ever stopped to think about how much we have in common? Join me, AndyB, as I explore the “Asian/Brown Overlap” in the video below.

Who’s Andy?

I’m Andy.  :D

Oh right, that was supposed to lead into an introduction. My name is Andy Balram, and I’ll be your biweekly thursday columnist. When I think of some defining characteristics for myself, I’ll insert them here… eventually.

So… you’re Brown.

Yes.

So… why are you here?

Well, the short version is I  just love Asian culture and I feel I’ve got a lot to offer Bananaloft in their quest for the Asian identity. And though brown people are typically no experts on Asian culture, you should really stop and think about just how much brown and Asian people have in common. Just check out my first video above to see what I mean. While I’m here, I’ll be working with other members on their projects, in hopes of giving it some perspective, as well as doing any number of random things that come to mind. My main headliner will be my idea of “Asian on the Inside”.

What’s AOTI?

Asian on the inside (AOTI cause I’m lazy) will be the heart of my column. Basically it will be about finding the inner Asian in non-Asians around Toronto.  Though I like to write, a  lot of material will be in video format.. cause it’s awesome. So to start things off right, rather than rant for a few paragraphs just check out my video for a break down. By the way, I apologize for the lighting– I shot at 3 AM, and used a cheap desk lamp with a 40W bulb pointed at my face.

Cause that’s how I roll.
